Promotion and validation of non formal and informal learning : a solution for the European labour market ? PDF Print E-mail

Pour la Solidarité published in June 2009 a working paper on valuing and validation of non formal and informal learning.

For a few years, the key concept of lifelong learning has developed. And with the social crise, its utility seems more and more relevant. The background idea is that people acquire competences and knowlegde all along their life and that the latter can be used at work. Learning is not understood as a fixed and limited process but more as an evolution. The acquisition of competences during personal or work life is one of the lifelong learning aspects. The aim of the validation of non formal and informal learning is to recognise and valorize on the labour market competences and skills developed outside formal education. For example, in a job search a person can promote an experience as a volunteer or a sport experience as a non professional football team leader. The question of the European integration should be taken into account as well given that lifelong learning has a role to play. Experience developed outside formal education and training is invisible, but it gives nonetheless results.

Are valuing and validation of non formal and informal learning a sustainable solution to answer to labour market difficulties ?
